Aging markets

We’re increasingly seeing manufacturers having to realign their marketing strategies as the population ages (see here). So it’s no surprise to see the Japanese doing something about it too – especially with their very old population.

The article below (screenshot), caught my eye in the English paper The Daily Telegraph.

I wonder if we’ll soon start seeing cartoons targetted at the old. Or perhaps films like Shrek and other CA pics, which some say are wasted on children anyway, are already shifting the age profile upwards? Or will Mickey Mouse start growing a white beard?

  1. In England, as I understand it, an amusement park has been opened for wrinklies. I had this idea about 20 years ago, and now it’s reality. All the fun things we used to love, big and solid and safe, just for old fogeys!
