Sad state of affairs

I find myself in one of Mallorca’s few genuine holiday havens – no masses, low key, still a holiday resort, only not spoilt by modern tourism. Frequented by lots of French and a healthy mix of other nations, including many Spanish. Lovely promenade. Just right. Then… as it said in my blog at the time:

…at night – walking along the promenade my son is twitching at his handheld every 50 metres. Eventually he cries out, “I’m in!”. He’d found a wifi hotspot. I am confined to kicking my heels for 10 minutes. He gradually homes in on the signal. Outside the Esplendido hotel. I listen to the waves stroking the sand. Opposite my son: 5 teenagers. Hot-wired to their handhelds too. Hotspots are obviously geek magnets.

Thought: will the manager one day come out to the front of the hotel wondering why all the young handheld addicts hang out around HIS hotel? Probably start getting paranoid – til someone let’s him out of his misery…

Or is this a great way to market a hotel’s image – to future potential customers…?
